Car blessing at Antipolo Church
Congratulations! You got yourself a new car. The elderly would probably urge you to have it blessed before taking it on long drives, and the most popular destination for car blessings is at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage or, as everyone calls it, Antipolo Church.
First thing you should do is to check the schedule:
As indicated, car blessing is scheduled daily from 7am-11am then resumes at 2pm-5pm. Now that you know when to go, you can make your way to Antipolo Church with your new car!
HOW TO GET THERE:
Type in Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Waze and follow the voice instructions. Or if you prefer Google Maps, type in Antipolo Cathedral/National Shrine. We drove for a little over an hour from Marikina.
Where to park:
You can go straight to the church's parking on the right side or the left. We ignored the teenagers knocking on our window and guiding us to the church's "lower" parking lot (I don't know what it's called) -- they will only offer you to buy souvenirs or kakanin and kasuy from their store. There are a couple of security guards standing near the entrance who will guide you, you just have to ask them instead.
WHAT TO DO NEXT:
After finding a parking spot, you'll have to go the Parish Office and give a donation for your "registration". That includes a small "poon" that you can put in your car. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were a number of people having their cars blessed but I guess there were a lot of priests doing the blessing. We went to the waiting area and an available priest readily approached us and asked us where our car was.
BLESSING THE CAR:
The priest will accompany you to where you parked your car. Then, he'll ask you to open all doors including the hood and the trunk. He'll then say a prayer, then shower you, your car, and the poon with holy water while saying the Lord's prayer. We brought a small rosary as well and he blessed that too.
And that's it! The whole thing took less than half an hour. There were also photographers on standby if you're willing to pay them to take photos while having your car blessed and after (with your car), for "remembrance".
Whee! Now we'll be able to take this baby out of town!
